Manchester United fans think £51m player is ‘definitely gone’ as footage emerges from Asia tour

Manchester United have been sent on a tour of Asia after a dismal 2024/25 campaign, and got off to an embarrassing start.

Ruben Amorim has two friendlies to handle before the Red Devils can fly back to England, and suffered a 1-0 defeat in the first outing on Wednesday as Manchester United were defeated by ASEAN All-Stars.

It was hardly a weak side either, as Harry Maguire, Andre Onana, Patrick Dorgu, Casemiro, Diogo Dalot, Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo, Rasmus Hojlund, Bruno Fernandes, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo all made appearances.

Now, Manchester United fans think one of these names is “gone” after footage emerged from the tour.

Manchester United fans are all saying the same thing about Alejandro Garnacho

It is something of a surprise to see the Argentina international even involved in this trip.

Amorim left Garnacho out of the 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday, and is believed to have told the South American to find a new club, with Manchester United putting a £51m price tag on his head.

The Manchester United No.17 certainly looked like a player who had been told such news, as he cut a frustrated, disillusioned figure during a meet and greet with fans.

One supporter on X wrote “Garnacho is definitely gone” after seeing footage of the forward showing little enthusiasm for fans at a signing event, where he can be seen yawning and offering a half-hearted handshake.

A second Manchester United fan agreed that the 20-year-old could be off, writing: “My brother suddenly told me he’d pay for the tickets because this might be my last chance to see Garnacho. I think he’s right.”

In fairness to the Madrid-born attacker, this is the last thing any footballer would want to do after a draining, underwhelming 2024/25 campaign, which many regard as the worst season Manchester United have endured since relegation in 1973/74.

However, the Red Devils are in such a poor financial situation, this trip is unfortunately a necessary one – it is rumoured to be bringing in £8m in revenue.

Elsewhere, a third Manchester United supporter joked that Garnacho looks like a man who has already quit, writing: “He has (a) similar gesture to me when I already resigned from the company.”

A fourth fan echoed the sentiments of those above, posting: “He definitely doesn’t want to be there. His attitude and body language says it all.”

Last but not least, two other Manchester United fans commented on the situation.

One posted: “This is what I don’t understand. If he’s gone why not leave him at home and let one of the (academy) kids take his spot. (I am) sure they would love to experience this over him.”

A sixth supporter simply wrote “dude just wants to go home” with a string of laughing emojis.

Arsenal could sign Alejandro Garnacho

Chelsea are keen to sign the Manchester United academy graduate, but the Blues are not the only Premier League side to be linked.

TBR Football understand Arsenal have spoken to Garnacho’s representatives about his situation at Old Trafford, with Mikel Arteta keen to sign a new forward this summer.

Overseas, Atletico Madrid are admirers of Garnacho too, so the winger appears to have several options on the table as his Manchester United career seemingly comes to an end.
