Man City fans convinced they’re signing a player who is better and much cheaper than Florian Wirtz

Liverpool are closing in on a deal to sign Florian Wirtz, however, Man City fans are insisting they could be getting a player who might actually be better.

Pep Guardiola is looking to transform his City team following just their second trophyless season during his six years at the Etihad Stadium.

The former Premier League champions spent a substantial amount in January on Omar Marmoush, Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov, but are ready to keep going.

Manchester City supporters now believe one of their latest top targets might actually be a better player and better value than Liverpool’s move for Florian Wirtz.

Man City fans think Rayan Cherki is better value than Liverpool’s Florian Wirtz deal

That player is Rayan Cherki, with Man City having added the Frenchman to their list of transfer targets.

Lyon want around £30m for Cherki, which is considerably less than the £100m Liverpool are paying to sign Florian Wirtz.

Wirtz had held talks with City, however, the German international appears to have chosen a move to Anfield over Manchester.

Pep Guardiola has now moved on to other targets with Cherki open to a Premier League move. The 21-year-old could be finally set to get his big move, having been impressing over in Ligue 1 for some time now.

City supporters have now taken to X to share their honest thoughts on Liverpool signing Wirtz for £100m, whilst they might be landing Cherki for just £30m.

One fan said: “Cherki link made the Wirtz transfer less special… Getting the same quality for £70m less.”

Another added: “Getting Cherki for £30m instead of paying £100m for Wirtz would be the smartest deal of the century.”

There was yet more praise for City’s move to sign Cherki: “Getting snubbed by Wirtz and ending up with Cherki is like the Kane Haaland dilemma. In the end, we always win.”

Finally, another supporter said: “Someone said the difference between Cherki and Florian Wirtz ain’t £100m and I felt it.”

Are Man City actually getting a better player in Rayan Cherki than Florian Wirtz?

Cherki has actually managed more goals and assists combined despite having played nearly 300 fewer minutes than the Leverkusen man.

The stats are very close, with the German playmaker getting 31 goals and assists, meanwhile, Cherki has 32 across all competitions.

Wirtz has been superb for Leverkusen across the last two seasons having helped them to win their first ever Bundesliga title.

Cherki’s goal saw Lyon qualify for the Europa League through the league whilst also reaching the quarter-finals of the competition this season.
